Between 1993 and 1996, I travelled extensively and worked abroad. It was when I visited the Himalayas and China that I first developed an interest in Meditation, Yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. I loved the way that these disciplines enabled me to feel the energy or ‘Qi’ moving through my body. This motivated me to embark on a three year diploma course with the Bristol School of Shiatsu. Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage therapy based on the same principals as acupuncture, in which pressure is applied to certain points on the body using the hands.
Following several years of receiving life changing acupuncture treatment for a painful condition, I decided to further my training at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading. As a fully licensed Acupuncturist I offer a mixture of 5 Element, TCM and Master Tung acupuncture as well as moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha massage, and Tui Na, which is also a type of Chinese Medical Massage.
Many people will know what acupuncture is but most people have never heard of Tui Na. Sometimes called ‘acupuncture without needles’, Tui Na is a complete medical system with a comprehensive set of techniques. It is based on the key fundamental theories and diagnostics of Chinese Medicine, combining physical bodywork with directed energy medicine. Tui Na can feel quite different from other massage and it can be used alone or to enhance the effects of acupuncture. Tui Na is usually performed with the client wearing fairly loose clothing and can be experienced as both relaxing and energising. Just like acupuncture, Tui Na can be used to treat very specific conditions by moving energy and blood to relieve symptoms.

The initial assessment and treatment takes a little longer because I will ask a few question to build up a full traditional diagnosis. The number of treatments that you will require depends on your condition. Many people will start off with one treatment per week for 3 to 6 weeks and could expect to see lasting improvements within this time. The effects of acupuncture are cumulative, although some people feel better after just one. The treatments can be spread out over time depending on the response to treatment.
