Rosen Method Bodywork

My varied professional experiences reflect my wide interests. I trained in Physiotherapy, Allergy Therapy, Reiki, adult education, coaching, Waldorf kindergarten work, administration, and conflict resolution.

As a physiotherapist I worked mostly (and passionately) in neurological rehabilitation of people who had suffered severe head injury, stroke etc. One aspect of the work was to help the patient reduce the pathological tension in muscles. I observed then that gentle, unhurried touch has a soothing and relaxing effect on the nervous system and thus on muscle tissue. This I also find in Rosen bodywork.

In 2018 I had my first Rosen session during which I had a profound inner experience. I loved the kind touch and the fact that there was no agenda. Rosen method does not manipulate. It gently invites the client into a process of self-discovery and letting go. Several sessions followed which helped me to become aware of and release ‘emotional baggage’ and literally lighten up.

I have trained in Rosen bodywork since 2019, pausing for two years due to lockdowns and extended recovery from long covid, experiencing the debilitating effects of post-viral fatigue. I have one son and live with my partner in Stroud. I am truly excited to bring this wonderful work into the world.

I work as an intern under supervision by the trainers of the UK Rosen Institute. I have successfully fulfilled all the conditions set by the Institute to ensure that I work safely, ethically and at a sufficient level to be effective with my sessions.

What is the Rosen Method?
Rosen bodywork was developed by Marion Rosen, a physio- and breath therapist.

The Rosen practitioner uses gentle touch which leads into deep relaxation. She ‘listens’ with soft hands for tense muscles. Through this the client can become aware of chronic muscle tightness which is often connected to ‘stuck’ emotions. These may have been there for a long time and taken much energy to sustain. Many clients are new to this kind of non-intrusive touch, where the aim is not to fix, diagnose or ‘cure’ the client, but to bring about ease and relaxation through self-connection and release.

Tense muscle becomes able to relax when it is met with appropriate touch. During this process emotions may surface which had not been ‘allowed’ before, as they could not be handled at the time of the original experience. When long held restrictions dissolve physical discomfort reduces and movement becomes freer, breath flows deeper, body organs function better, and we can expand mentally and emotionally. As physical changes occur, our emotional anatomy also shifts, often leading to greater self-acceptance, rebalancing of the nervous system and integration of body and mind.

Simple dialogue during the session allows the client to express what they are experiencing.

Rosen touch is always respectful.
Why have a session?
If you suffer from chronic tension/pain which are not related to a definite medical diagnosis
To explore physical/emotional discomfort that may benefit from deep relaxation
As a way of becoming aware of behaviour patterns and life responses which are limiting you
To uncover both conscious and unconscious habitual responses to stress and difficulty
To support recovery from a traumatic experience by developing tolerance, resilience and acceptance
As a way of listening inwards for guidance during times of transitions and self-discovery
To explore new possibilities about who you are without defences in a safe environment
As an adjunct to psychotherapy, to bring the body’s intelligence to awareness where it is available for discussion, processing and integration

Gaby has a very gentle and intuitive energy, so I trusted her immediately. My Rosen treatment was powerful, which surprised me, as it was also really gentle. It was different to other treatments I’ve experienced, talking about what was going on in my head as Gaby worked on my body. It felt like a profound rewiring. I felt like I’d been given permission to let go of something, with more of a connection between my body and my mind.
What happens in our sessions?
A typical Rosen session takes approximately 50 minutes. The client lies on a treatment couch dressed in their underwear and covered by a blanket. The blanket is only removed from the body area on which the practitioner is working at the time. To begin with, the client lies on their front and turns onto their back halfway through the session. There is time after the session for the client to rest for a few minutes.

New clients are invited to a free 15min introductory call before the first session. I will ask the prospective new client why they would like to experience Rosen sessions. We will also talk about important health issues and other relevant information before setting up an appointment. This is an opportunity for the client to ask any questions they may have.
